Getting Indexed Beyond Google: Bing, Brave, Yandex and IndexNow (2026)

Google is no longer the only entry point: Bing feeds ChatGPT and Copilot, Brave has its own independent index, IndexNow notifies engines in real time. An hour of work, once, for a visibility channel your competitors ignore.

You dutifully submit your sitemap to Google Search Console and stop there. That's a mistake that costs free traffic, because Google is no longer the only entry point that matters. Bing feeds ChatGPT and Copilot answers. Brave has its own independent index. DuckDuckGo, Ecosia and Qwant lean heavily on Bing. Yandex dominates entire markets. Getting indexed everywhere is an hour of work, done once, for a visibility tap most of your competitors ignore.

This guide lists the engines worth the effort in 2026, how to get indexed on them, and the IndexNow protocol that automates it all.

Why not stop at Google

Google is still the main volume, but two recent shifts change the math:

  • AI engines often go through Bing. ChatGPT Search and Microsoft Copilot rely on Bing's index for their sourced answers. Not being well indexed on Bing means forgoing part of your generative visibility, independently of your Google SEO.
  • Independent indexes are gaining ground. Brave Search built its own index (it doesn't just recopy Google or Bing). It's also one of the sources some AI tools query. Getting listed there requires an explicit submission almost nobody does.

Traffic from these engines is individually smaller than Google, but it's cumulative, often less competitive, and sometimes better-converting (privacy-conscious tech audiences on Brave and DuckDuckGo, specific geographic markets on Yandex).

The engines worth submitting to in 2026

Bing Webmaster Tools (priority #1 after Google)

This is the most rewarding, because it unlocks both Bing traffic and part of your ChatGPT/Copilot visibility. Create a Bing Webmaster Tools account, verify your domain (meta tag, file, or DNS), and submit your sitemap. Bonus: the tool lets you import your setup directly from Google Search Console, making it nearly instant.

Brave Search

Brave has a URL submission form to flag your site to its independent index. It's a quick, often-forgotten step that puts you on an engine whose audience (privacy-minded, rather technical) is exactly the target of many SaaS.

Yandex Webmaster

Relevant if you target Russian-speaking or Eastern European markets. Same logic: account, domain verification, sitemap submission. Skip it if your target is strictly French- or Western English-speaking.

DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Qwant: nothing special to do

Good news: these engines draw most of their results from Bing. Once well indexed on Bing, you're covered on them with no extra step. One more reason to prioritise Bing.

IndexNow: submit your new pages in real time

This is the real automation lever. IndexNow is an open protocol (pushed by Microsoft, Yandex and others) that lets you notify engines as soon as a page is created or updated, instead of waiting for them to re-crawl your site. You generate a key, drop it at your site's root, and on each publish you send a simple HTTP call ("this URL changed"). Bing, Yandex and partner engines take it from there.

The benefit: instead of an indexing delay of several days, your new pages are known within minutes. Many platforms (and CMS plugins) support IndexNow natively, often you just enable it. Google doesn't participate in IndexNow, but it already covers a good part of the remaining ecosystem.

The GEO angle: existing beyond Google means existing in more AIs

The link to AI visibility is direct. Generative engines don't all rely on the same index: some go through Bing, others cross several sources including independent indexes. The more your site is present in these underlying indexes, the more chances you have to appear in an AI answer, whatever engine generates it. Submitting to Bing and Brave isn't just alternative SEO, it widens your generative citation surface.

The "indexed everywhere" checklist (1 hour, once)

  1. Bing Webmaster Tools: create the account, import from Google Search Console, submit the sitemap. (Top priority.)
  2. Brave Search: submit your URL via its submission form.
  3. Yandex Webmaster: only if you target Russian-speaking/Eastern European markets.
  4. IndexNow: generate a key, drop it at the root, enable notification on each publish (natively or via plugin).
  5. Do nothing for DuckDuckGo/Ecosia/Qwant: Bing covers them.
  6. Check indexation after a few days in each webmaster tool.

The principle: your content deserves to be findable wherever someone (or an AI) searches, not just on Google. It's an hour of work for a channel you'll never have to reconfigure again.
