Guide · How to fix

Declare a canonical tag

Without canonical, you risk duplicate content: Google randomly indexes variants of your URL (with/without www, parameters…).

Step by step

  1. 1

    Add to <head>: <link rel="canonical" href="https://your-site.com/the-page"> pointing to the page's clean URL.

  2. 2

On WordPress/Yoast, Shopify or Webflow it's handled automatically — check it's filled and correct.

  3. 3

Each page points to itself (except deliberate duplication where it points to the original).

  4. 4

Avoid broken canonicals or all pointing to the homepage (a common mistake).

Generalist method: adapt “depending on your tool” (WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, or directly in code).
